Mid-State Ice Rink
Quality Mechanical Services (QMS) was selected to provide engineering, design, and mechanical construction services for the Mid-State Ice Arena in Cicero, New York. This project focused on improving the reliability, efficiency, and long-term performance of the facility’s ice rink refrigeration infrastructure. The project began with a comprehensive 3D laser scan of the existing mechanical room and chiller systems, allowing QMS to develop accurate as-built documentation and design a modernized refrigeration solution tailored to the facility’s operational needs. QMS’s scope included the removal of the existing chiller, installation of a new owner-furnished refrigeration chiller, replacement of the primary circulation pump, addition of a redundant backup pump for increased system reliability, mechanical room piping modifications, balancing valve installation, and evaluation of both ice slab and subfloor heating circuits. The project also included development and implementation of a customized controls and operating sequence to optimize system performance. By combining advanced virtual design technology, refrigeration expertise, hydronic system knowledge, and controls integration, QMS delivered a comprehensive solution designed to improve ice quality, enhance equipment redundancy, and support the long-term success of one of Central New York’s premier ice sports facilities.
